February Knit Project…check!
I started the Girlfriend Market Bag for my aunt on my way to my girl’s trip in Vegas and YES, I just now finished it. It was her Christmas present and became a Valentine gift…thank goodness I did it in pink. Either way, it’s finished, I mailed it, she likes it, and I included a fun OKC shopping guide.
Okie Blog Awards
Okay….so I am a little behind. I recently realized that it was time to vote for the Oklahoma Blog Awards. The ballots were due “Sunday by midnight.” I decided that I really wanted take some time to look at all of the nominee’s and give some real thought to the ones I felt worthy of my vote. I sat down with a glass of wine on Saturday night and spent a good two hours going through all of the blogs. Looking at the form, function, content, how frequent they were updated, and it goes on and on. Finally, around 10 pm I was finished. I was looking up the link for which to e-mail my ballot and that is when I saw IT. The ballot was due “Sunday, February 14….by midnight.” You have to be kidding me, right? No, I had misread or perhaps not ever read the correct date.
This seems to happen to me all the time. I don’t know if my brain just shuts down at random for parts of the day or if I am not as good at talking to my children, cooking dinner, and reading details of the OK Blog Awards as I think I am. Maybe I should go see a neuroligist…I know it could not be my stellar multitasking skills.
Either way, I know someone has to be interested in my votes so here they are….I also learned a lot about what I personally look for in a good blog and what I want mine to aim for. I will look at some of these points throughout this next week. For now, I vote for…

What The Heck???
Is it a problem that my 3 and 4 year old ask, “What the *heck?” at least twice a day each? *heck is slightly muffled….clearly they know this is not appropriate. I have seriously worked on my language since I became a mother, but this one is proving to be a challenge. I can’t stop saying it and it just doesn’t sound as cute coming from my childrens’ mouths as it does my own.Â
That aside….What the *Heck is going on with this blog?
If you are a regular reader, I am sure you have noticed this site changing with the Oklahoma Wind. I am obsessing!!!! Big surprise! I am trying to decide what direction I want to take this site. I am thinking about continuing with the general blog but adding separate blog/pages things like:
My Studio (photography/painting/sewing/knitting/digital and web)
Foodie Fun (because I love to cook, photograph food, and of course eat local)
“Colors of Creation”….this would cover more thought provoking posts of the news/political/religious type…..my little outlet for being born in the Bible Belt and not always “fitting in.” Colors alluding to the fact that we all bring different gifts and challenges to the world and things are not always BLACK and WHITE like I have often been encouraged to believe.
I am curious what you all think. So….nose around and see what you think. I know you are lurking….you might as well give me your input so I can meet your every need. Well….not your every need….you know what I mean. What would you be interested in reading about? Please leave a comment with your thoughts and ideas!!!
Make Do and Mend
The idea to make do and mend has been around in a practical way since the second World War. I love the values of using what we have and making the most of all of our resources to provide for the future in a more holistic way. I think about this when I find a new way to use some herbs I have grown, or a new way to use fabric that once served a different purpose. I also think about this when I wash dishes or laundry and care for my things the way that women have done for centuries before me.
The Make Do and Mend motto has begun to be a part of how I contend with difficulties with the world as I know it. It is refreshing to recognize the hand I have been dealt and do my best to make do and mend relationships, perceptions, fears, and through this healing my spirit. The challenges that arise from making do with what I have instead of just starting over from scratch have enriched my life. I would not wish these challenges on anyone, but I am proud of the person I have become in spite of them.
Dreaming of a Vacation
This July Law Man and I will celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. I am so excited. I so miss spending time just me and my husband. I love these years with the children, but I really do long for some adult time with LM. We have big plans….for August…since my sister is getting married in early August. I will let you know more about that as it evolves. For now, I will just say that I am paying very close attention to the Winter Olympics.Â
Until then, here is a picture from the last vacation Law Man and I went on sans children. It has been way too long!
