A Weekend to Remember
Last weekend will not be easily forgotten. It was full, fun and beautiful. I remember when I graduated from college, I thought I would live anywhere but Enid or Oklahoma City. I was “big city bound.” We stayed and now I am so glad. Here is a recap of last weekend:
We went to the Arts Festival….twice!
We enjoyed a Thunder victory against the Laker’s in the Playoffs IN Oklahoma City….TWICE!
We went to swimming lessons…..X2.
We went to the Memorial Marathon and cheered on the runners.
It was amazing and the boys were tired….but not to be stopped.
Cook Out of the Box
I love to cook…..baking, ehhhhh, but cooking……ummmmmm!!!! I can always use more tips and ideas and explanations about things like “what is risotto?”. So, I was elated when I found out that two of my friends were starting a business. They are two of the best cooks I know. Darcy is from the south and has a taste for southern cooking and hospitality….two of my favorite things. Leslie is a wonderful baker with a lot of tips….that are actually useful….not like the “just kneed until it feels right” that I get when I ask my grandmother.
Recently, our Sunday school friends decided to have a girls night that featured Out of the Box Cooking. It was amazing.
Learned how to make Millionaire Shortbread and Risotto….

It was amazing!!!
Oklahoma Land Run(s)
As a native Oklahoman, I remember celebrating the Land Run each year in elementary school. I remember getting to dress up in my pioneer clothes, decorating covered wagons, and playing “pioneer” for the entire afternoon. Now, it is so much fun to watch my big guy do the same thing. It is still a little strange that here in OKC we celebrate the 1889 Land Run, which happened in the spring. I am used to imagining the Land Run in the fall which is what we celebrate in the Cherokee Strip. All in all, it makes me nostalgic and feel a little OLD!
This is his “tough face”. *Note: He picked out his own clothes based on what he learned in school.
In some respects the recent settlement of Oklahoma was the most remarkable thing of the present century. Unlike Rome, the city of Guthrie was built in a day. To be strictly accurate in the matter, it might be said that it was built in an afternoon. At twelve o’clock on Monday, April 22d, the resident population of Guthrie was nothing; before sundown it was at least ten thousand. In that time streets had been laid out, town lots staked off, and steps taken toward the formation of a municipal government. At twilight the camp-fires of ten thousand people gleamed on the grassy slopes of the Cimarron Valley, where, the night before, the coyote, the gray wolf, and the deer had roamed undisturbed. Never before in the history of the West has so large a number of people been concentrated in one place in so short a time. To the conservative Eastern man, who is wont to see cities grow by decades, the settlement of Guthrie was magical beyond belief; to the quick-acting resident of the West, it was merely a particularly lively town-site speculation. Tech Tuesday — 5 Amazing Apps
Grocery iQ — This is one of my absolute favorite apps. I use it all of the time. Now, if I could just become that “organized mom” that I admire from afar, I would have my pantry fully stocked at all times and I would be saving time and money in the process. I am well on my way, but even only slightly organized me finds this very useful. I keep a running grocery list sorted by store and then when I am in the when I have time I can go in and never forget an item again. There are two things that I wish this could do is 1. sync with my iPad and 2. be accessed on my desktop. Other than that it does pretty much everything. You can sort by store, keep track of favorites and history, and best of all….e-mail it to Law Man if I don’t have time to stop by the store sans kiddos.
Martha’s Everyday Food — I used this just last night to make a yummy meal. You can sort by main ingredient, find what you want, send it to a grocery list, buy ingredients and there you have it a fresh dinner idea without sorting through all of your cookbooks. Now, this would be really great if it connected to Grocery iQ.
Lose It — This has been the most effective way for me to lose weight after having two babies and a case of the lazies. It allows me to easily track what I eat and how much I work off. I can track all of my progress and keep up with my calories every day.
This American Life — A friend recently turned me on to this App. We are both big TAL fans and this is the ultimate App. You can sort by radio shows, TV shows, Favorites, or Contributors. Some of my all time favorite episodes are Scenes From a Recession (particularly Act 2), John Smith, and a recent favorite NUMMI.
Hipstamatic — This is just a fun camera app. I use it to take candid pics when all I have available is my iPhone.
