I have been suffering from a bit of “Post Block”. I have written a lot, but nothing that seems appropriate to share at this time….appropriate…..that is becoming a very used word around here. However, I think I am going to have to post something just to get beyond this and move on….so here goes.
Mother’s Day happened, I heard. People were talking about it on the radio, at church, on blogs…..and people kept saying the strangest thing to me….”Happy Mother’s Day!” I smiled and said, “thanks” or “Happy Mother’s Day to you too”…….I realized that was the appropriate thing to do. Somehow it was just another day for me. Another day of missing my mom. Another day of feeling terrible that I did not do “something” to save her. Another day feeling despair that I could ever do something to cause my children this type of pain over anything, ever. Another day trying to do all the “right things” so people won’t “worry” about me. The strangest part of the day for me was that no one….not one person….mentioned my own mother. I guess people were afraid to broach the subject, but it felt very strange. The sun came up…the sun went down….and so it was….the first Mother’s Day without my mom.
Generally speaking, it was a good weekend. I had plenty of time with my boys. I got to cook and cook and cook. Our neighbors hosted a wonderful get together. I spent time with Law Mans’ parents, whom over the years have taken me in like their own. I resisted….oh how I resisted….but that is where I find myself more and more these days….a part of their clan. Perhaps the “black sheep” but a part of them still the same.
Here are some pictures of the weekend. I couldn’t bring myself to take any on “the Day” itself, but the boys looked handsome I assure you.
I took this picture after realizing the abundance in my life thanks to all three of my sweet boys!!!! Nothing makes a weekend like the farmer’s market x2!
I made BLTs with Fried Green Tomatoes. They were AMAZING!!!
Spinach and Goat Cheese Tartlets…..with goat cheese from here in Oklahoma!
And….finally I made the Pioneer Woman’s Festive Grilled Zucchini and Sweet Potato salad…I thought this was delicious, but the party-goers seemed afraid of it. They missed out!!!
We went to the party and had…..
Homemade beer and homemade brats!!!!! Again, amazing!
The boys blew bubbles…..and drew with chalk.
And then, not to let us get away too easily, the oldest was….yes….”inappropriate”.
But, in his defense, his pants did not fit correctly. Note to self…..”Husky” means two inches shorter in the legs. But he had fun.
Like how I busted right through that “Post Block” thing?
