Taking it Global

Some women plan their wedding from the time they are children, I have planned my home. Then I married Law Man and had two boys and the bright colors, giant flowers and birds have not been as popular with the family as I had hoped. I have found some other ideas that seem to get a better reception…my current favorite are the globes and world maps as decor.

I love this idea from Pirouette via Design*Sponge. If you click on the D*S link you will also notice an awesome arrangement of books by color.

I love this from Apartment Therapy via Houzz for a little study nook.

The High Spirited, High Traffic Home

I always set lofty goals for myself at the beginning of a new year.  This year is no different.  I have found that telling all of my readers what is going on and what to expect is a way to hold myself accountable.  So, get ready, here is my new goal.

Come up with a design plan for my house that we just moved into 2 and a half years ago and have not done a thing to since.  Notice I said plan.  I hope to put it all into motion, but well this is what has been holding me back.  I do not want to take the time for a plan until we are ready to act and Law Man does not want to act until we have a plan.  I am sure it is a right brain/left brain…..Mars/Venus thing.  So, I give up and here goes the plan.

Initial Thoughts:

  • We live in a 1020’s home…..enough said.
  • I love color, texture, big print.
  • Law Man likes traditional…..invite the Law Partners over decor.
  • I am home all of the time.
  • He is not.
  • We have 2 “high spirited” children…..boys!
  • I love to have people over….of all ages….even the Law Partners.
  • Walls and Bathrooms are expensive to move or add.
  • I love chairs like I love shoes….bright, stylish, eye catching….but you can have too much of a good thing.
  • I get depressed in a cluttered home….including decorative clutter.  You know, where you can’t even find a place to sit you coffee because the coffee table is so “cute”.
  • We have a unfinished third floor that has not even been viewed by the current owners.

The thoughts go on and on, but you get the point.  There is a lot of planning to do.  So, I am tackling this like I tackled my to learn to knit and cook French Cuisine.

  • Read and research
  • Find some organization apps for the handy dandy iPad/iPhone/iMac trio that are my constant companions.
  • And, tell you all about it.
  • I have also started a notebook to show Law Man…he doesn’t really catch the drift it is not on paper.  He likes to be able to sticky note and paper clip.

Many of you might ask why I don’t just hire a decorator.  The short answer is….that is way too easy.  The long answer is…..I want my home to reflect us and our story and I don’t really know how to convey that at this point.  The decorator might come, we will see.  For now, it is just a plan.

Here are a few places I seek inspiration…..just so you get a feel for what I like.

Anna Maria Horner….I love her kitchen

The Inspired Room….I love her tips.

A Couple of Oklahoma Gals that I love to follow, DesignCrush and &Kathleen….I am always up for more local designers……who do you stalk for design ideas?
